The police in Delta State have arrested a man in connection with the explosion that rocked the seat of speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei, at a political meeting in the state at the weekend.
Two cannons exploded at the venue of the meeting at Obomkpa, Aniocha North Council Area of the state, while the speaker was acknowledging cheers from well wishers at the venue.
The seat of the speaker was specially clothed along with other special guests.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that Ochei's seat was thrown meters up while a lady close by had her legs shattered.
The lady, identified as a personal assistant to a bishop of a new generation church in Asaba, was rushed to Delta State University
Teaching Hospital, Oghara, for treatment.
However, the police public relations officer, ASP Lucky Uyabeme, told newsmen in Asaba on Monday that police had intensified investigation into the incident to bring any
other accomplice to book.
Uyabeme debunked Sahara Reporter's report credited to him that the explosion was not targeted at the speaker, adding that he never
at anytime spoke with the correspondent of the social media outfit.
The speaker, Hon Ochei is jostling for the governorship position of the state come 2015.
The chief press secretary to the speaker, Mr Nkem Osu, who was also at the venue of the meeting, confirmed that the speaker was
targeted, describing it as a purely
assassination attempt on Ochei.
Meanwhile, the police in Ogwashi-uku have arrested one Eric Uredolor and Pius Eghwere for the kidnap of one Kayode Obuhoro of Obos layout, Osubi, near Warri recently while driving in his Highlander Jeep with
registration number JJJ 806 BD.
